When is the best time to travel during pregnancy if you have a choice?

The best time travel when you’re pregnant, if at all possible, is the second trimester (the magical time between 13 and 25 weeks).  Here are some reasons:

• Morning sickness is usually not an issue by the second trimester. The nausea and queasiness is usually gone by then.
• Traveling during the third trimester is too uncomfortable and cumbersome because of your large size.
  

Regardless of when you travel during pregnancy, you should be well-prepared. It's a good idea to bring a doctor's note which clearly shows your due date.

When you start getting into the third trimester, the airline may ask you questions. Sometimes we can be a little sensitive about our size to begin with so let's not leave it up for discussion. For a stress-free trip, carry a note from your doctor saying:

and

It's okay for _______ to travel until ________.

• Wear comfortable clothing - Don’t be a fashionista when you’re traveling. Remember that you'll need to take off your shoes when going through airport security so wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off.
• Dress in layers - It’s a good idea to wear multiple layers because you'll likely go through several temperature changes during your trip. Sometimes the plane will be air-conditioned or heated too much.
• Stay hydrated - The pressurized cabins are really dry sometimes, so make sure to drink lots of water when you’re in the air. Avoid caffeine.
• Bring some snacks - If your plane gets delayed or you're sitting on a tarmac for awhile, you don't want your blood pressure to fall.
• Choose an aisle seat - Aisle seats are the best choice for pregnant women because you can stretch your legs out and exercise your ankles. It's also much easier to go to the bathroom.
