Luxury 4x4s Go Head to Head
If cars were countries, luxury cars and four wheel drive vehicles would be considered first world countries. Luxury four wheel drives on the other hand would be considered super powers. They would be a combination of two powerful and advanced countries. To avoid getting lost in this analogy, let’s stop there and get into car comparison. Luxury four wheel drives are high performance vehicles that deliver power, safety and innovation is an elaborate package. The Range Rover Hse is among the top four wheel drive luxury vehicles in the market today. The Lexus LX570 is a worthy competitor to the Range Rover and we should have lots of fun seeing which of the two outshines the other.
Performance
Luxury cars are normally powerful and luxury 4x4 vehicles are no exception. The standard Range Rover Hse is powered by a 5.0l, V-8 engine that delivers 375hp. This Range Rover will tow loads of up to 7716lb or carry a load that is up to 1358lb. There is a super charged version of the Range Rover that also operates a 5.0l engine but delivers a much stronger kick of 510hp. It is capable of hauling 7716lb or hauling loads of up to 1164lb. The Lexus LX 570 has a 5.7l, V-8 engine that is works with a six speed automatic transmission to deliver 383hp. It can tow a load of up to 8500lb or haul a load of 1411lb. Comparison can only be fair if we pit the standard Range Rover against the Lexus and considering the figures we have, the Lexus LX 570 takes the first star of this contest of power and glamour.
Fuel Efficiency
Luxury vehicles are never bought due to their fuel efficiency features. This is especially so when they happen to be 4x4 luxury vehicles. We can however still compare which of these poor fuel efficiency vehicles is worse. The Lexus has been recorded as averaging 12 miles in city environments and 18 miles on highways for every gallon of fuel. The Range Rover is doing equally badly and has the very same averages of 12 and 18 miles per gallon. Next time I compare these vehicles I will remember to skip this part. It was of no use at all but since we already have it let’s keep it for now.

Safety
One of the most critical aspects of car manufacture is the safety of the vehicle while on the road. Luxury four wheel drive manufacturers have always stayed ahead by ensuring the most advanced and reliable safety systems and features are used on the vehicles the produce. Both the Range Rover Hse and Lexus LX 570 have all the basic safety features such as airbags for the front, sides, overhead and knees, ABS and driveline traction control, anti whiplash head restraints, seatbelt pretensioners, electronic stability control, parking assist and much more. They also have some advanced safety features that are not common with ordinary cars. These include directionally adaptive headlights, blind spot sensor, anti roll bars, speed sensitive steering among others. Just like in the previous aspect, there are no stars to award here. It is a tie.
Exterior Features
The Lexus LX 570 and Range Rover Hse have very similar dimensions in height, width, clearance and body height. They however have very distinctly different shapes and appearances. The Lexus has a more aggressive appearance though it still manages to maintain an air of class about it. It’s body is made of fully galvanized steel that is covered with clearcoat monotone paint. Sun roof and roof racks are also standard features of the Lexus. Tinted windows as well designed as body side moldings give it a sleek look. The Range Rover Hse is considered by many as the crème de la crème of 4x4 luxury vehicles simply because of its appearance. It has a bold, sophisticated, detailed and stylish look that is known to awe all everywhere it goes. As far as exteriors are concerned, the Range Rover is definitely getting my nod. Sunroof, deep tinted windows, 19” silver aluminum wheels, silver grille and many other fine features define this magnificent car.
Interior Features
Along with performance, interiors are important attributes that set luxury vehicles apart from the rest. Comfort and class are the main considerations when designing the interiors of both the Range Rover and Lexus. These include basic luxury features such as wood and leather trimmed compartments, entertainment systems that include satellite radio, heated leather seats, front and rear air conditioning with separate controls and more. There are also features unique to each vehicle. The Range Rover has greater rear legroom, service interval warning system, driver information system and rear seat audio controls. The focus on rear comfort and controls is one of the reasons why that Range Rover is very popular among chauffeured executives. The Lexus on its part offers great legroom at the front as well as a third row of seats which makes it excellent for bigger families where the adults seat at the front while children have enough seating at the back. The Range Rover again outshines the Lexus as far as interiors are concerned.
Conclusion
As suggested by popular opinion, the Range Rover has emerged as the undisputed winner of this luxury 4x4 contest. It has managed to outshine the Lexus which is without a doubt a worth competitor. In a world of five and six star luxury I would five and a half star the Lexus while giving the Range Rover six stars.
